Creating opportunity through dance

The Sukuma Foundation is a not for profit, public benefit trust offering young South Africans from disadvantaged and poor and needy circumstances an opportunity to escape poverty and enhance the prospect of employment by mentoring, building skills and honing their talents in dance and the performing arts through educational enrichment. This is achieved by reaching out to unemployed youth, and by partnering with schools and community organizations in townships in and around Johannesburg and other parts of South Africa to identify candidates with talent and potential to advance their prospects of becoming professional dancers and performers. Sukuma provides training and support, including financial support, through scholarships and bursaries, to needy and deserving candidates. It facilitates introductions and opportunities to train and perform on dance projects such as Dance Alexandra and platforms both in South Africa and abroad.
